ACTRESS MEAGAN GOOD TO APPEAR IN UPCOMING DOCUSERIES “THE BLACK BEAUTY EFFECT”
From Creator and Executive Producer Andrea Lewis, Executive Producers Jackie Aina, Kahlana Barfield Brown, CJ Faison and Keesha Boyd
Today, Comcast NBCUniversal and FaceForward Productions announced acclaimed actress Meagan Good will appear in the upcoming three-part docuseries The Black Beauty Effect, set to premiere on November 25th on the Black Experience on Xfinity channel, a first-of-its-kind destination of Black entertainment featuring the ultimate in Black storytelling. From creator and executive producers Andrea Lewis (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Black Actress); and executive producer Emmy-nominee CJ Faison (Giants & Junebug), Jackie Aina and Kahlana Barfield Brown, the docuseries will spotlight the social change that has taken place in the beauty industry, as told from the perspective of the successful Black women who galvanized it.
The Black Beauty Effect is a three-part docuseries capturing the current evolution, revolution, and disruption taking place within the beauty industry. Black beauty influencers, celebrities, and entrepreneurs have taken up the torch passed down from their pioneering predecessors. Each hour-long episode examines a different aspect of beauty – hair, skin, and makeup – through the lens of some of the beauty industry’s most iconic game-changers. The Black Beauty Effect peels back the gorgeous glow we see in advertisements to tell the ugly truths that have plagued the beauty industry for far too long.
“I’m so excited about the release of this documentary and humbled to be part of it. I love that we get to examine Black beauty in all facets! Especially because for so long many of us have been told we don’t reach the standard of beauty when, in actuality, we are the most exotic women on the planet,” stated Good. “I’m excited for women to be inspired, powerfully influenced in their beauty inside and out and most of all loved on and reminded they are a force of God and nature.”
Featuring candid conversations with brand executives, celebrity makeup artists, beauty editors, and more, the docuseries focuses on the impact influencers have had on the industry’s changing perception of beauty. Participants include (but are not limited to):

“As a Black actor, you show up to the set and the makeup and hair stylists that are there, they’re not really there for us,” shared Amber Riley. “After having my makeup done for my cover shoot with Marie Claire, I had that “ah ha” moment, seeing what makeup can do for me. It made me go back to the set with a new confidence and ways to enhance my beauty. The Black Beauty Effect is a ripple effect, what we [Black women] do, what we have, and what we stand in. Content like this really does touch others, and we see that everywhere.”
“When I started working on this project it was very important for me to include the full depth of the beauty industry, from the Black beauty editors, makeup artists and hair stylists, to the social media influencers and of course the Black actors. Having Meagan Good and Amber Riley, two of my peers and actors that I respect and adore, sharing their own stories and admiration for the game changers of Black beauty is the perfect addition to this very important story,” explained Executive Producer Andrea Lewis. “The Black Beauty Effect is a dream come true for me, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team when I partnered with CJ Faison of Face Forward Productions and Keesha Boyd, Executive Director, Multicultural Entertainment at Xfinity, to bring this story to life.”
The Black Beauty Effect is directed by Kwanza Nicole Gooden and produced by FaceForward Productions. The series was created by Andrea Lewis, who serves as Executive Producer along with CJ Faison, Jackie Aina, and Kahlana Barfield Brown. Emmy-nominated Takara Joseph, Summer Griffiths and Adrienne Reed serve as producers, alongside Andrena Hale as showrunner.
“We’re delighted to announce Meagan Good’s inclusion in this remarkable cast of extraordinary professionals. Bringing the premiere of The Black Beauty Effect to the Black Experience on Xfinity channel is in alignment with our company-wide mission of investing in authentic Black stories, and uplifting emerging creative voices,” said Keesha Boyd, Executive Director, Multicultural Entertainment at Xfinity and Executive Producer of The Black Beauty Effect. “With this production, we aim to spotlight the incredible Black women who cultivated meaningful change throughout the industry, and the significant progression that followed as a result.”
